ON THE LOOKOUT
Here in Tutuila island movies are like lifelines to keeping you from going CRAZY. It’s that big of a deal so I figured I’d let you in what I thought about the recent ones I’ve watched…. (even though it seems we may get the movies in a bit late) but what the hell, things do get better! Just scroll down and find the review of the movie you’re looking for it’s as simple as that.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an action movie like this (DIE HARD LIVE FREE), kua seki a! Actually if feels like it’s been 1000 years! Bruce Willis is the man in this movie and it doesn’t seem like he’s aged a bit, well it does but you all get the point… IOE! It’s got all the explosions you could ask for comin’ at ya at a good pace your eyes and ears can feast on. I felt like they were combining the new and the old in this film. I mean c’mon don’t we all remember DIE HARD’S 1 2 and 3? Oe ua galo! Well in those films BRUCE’Y boy a.k.a JOHN MACLAIN (I think that’s how you spell the last name) is one on one with a bunch of highly trained terrorists and he’s friggin’ kickin’ muli all over the place using anything he could find to enhance the LAYETH’ THE SMACKETH’ DOWN effect! Part 4 aint no different, it’s just a hella good reminder of why we liked parts 1, 2, and 3 so much.
Ok, back into the main subject. This time around we’ve got all the flavors of people in there doin’ their thang in the updated century where internet and hackers make you look like a baby with their computer geek techinques on their keyboards.. OI SOLE! Our main character’s still got beef with his daughter (kua fia fusu a le keige!) which I think results from the earlier movies of DIE HARD (I think that’s what the directors and script writers were aiming at for the story assuming we already watched the older movies) but from there it’s John being in the wrong place at the wrong time and superamazingly surviving a shoot out with some damn well trained assassins for hire!
I just gotta add that the guy who was jumpin’ around all over the movie trying to kill John and his hacker buddy was the bomb of bombs ISA! Makes me want to go train wherever he gets trained and come back struttin’ them moves all over this island… I’d definitely be climbin’ these coconut trees a lot faster with that kinda skill choo hoooo! Anyhow I recommend you check it out if your into some good ol’ shoot em’ up action!
I give it 4 stars!

New movie is in, well probably not new to those of you from off island but I know a lot of people here in Tutuila still have not seen it. The movie is called WILD HOGS! I found out about it online so I had to get it. Downloaded it through I-Tunes pretty neat stuff if you ask me. Anyhow the movie has an all star cast and I’m not going to name them because it kills the fun if I did. All you need to know is that it’s about bikers and the biker tradition in the United States and four middle aged guys trying to reclaim their wild days back. As a young guy it’s scary and hilarious to know that one day I’ll end up having the type of mid life crisis that these 4 guys are having but damn the actors pull it off so good you’ve got to take a look and see how. Some people may not find their humor funny but I know I did, kua malie a, (it’s hella funny) in my opinion. I give it 4 stars!

i’m looking forward to seeing this great movie called “into the wild”.. directed by Sean Penn… a fascinating story about a young man’s journey who decided to cut everything loose..his family..school..money..even his identity..he travel 36cities in the U.S..to mexico, canada and last at Alaska….learning and discovering a whole new meaning to life.
The movie is an adaptation from John Krakauer…”into the wild”.. a well written and most of all beautiful cinematography.. ..jst makes you want to get out of your own comfort area and stepped out of the box….

1408 was one of the many movies I’ve watched over the past couple weeks. It lies more in the scary movie genre. Now a days though I find that for me scary movies don’t have the appeal they use to. Seems I’m sort of jaded to them in a sense. Anyhow back to the movie at hand.
1408 was a pretty good scary movie to me for one being done now a days. Reminded me of stories I’ve heard here in American Samoa where things happened and there were no explanations. The movie tries to sponsor its share of twists to the plot which I give them credit for but in the end it seems a bit all jumbled together to me. I wouldn’t call 1408 a blockbuster but if you’ve got time to kill it’s worth a try. I give this one 3 out of 5 stars.

Talk about blood, guts, and gore, The Pathfinder tried it’s hardest to be all of that. Before I watched the movie a couple cousins of mine said it sucked, literally so being the person that I am I was curious to see why. Damn was I disappointed but in a good way (oxymoron intended). The movie was catchy, it had the feel of WILLOW (I don’t know if any of you remember this movie) with a touch of KILL BILL.
I gotta say it was quite interesting to see such a bloody movie which only dealt with a few tribes of native Americans and a bunch of movies, usually you see that much killing and gutting in great epic movies like TROY or GLADIATOR but I think the makers of the movie tried to give it it’s own feel. I’ll admit it does spark attention and like 1408, it’s should kill time if you’ve got any to spare. I give this one 3 out of 5 stars.

Ever watched a foreign film and said to yourself, damn that’s not a bad movie? Well I did and the movie’s name was FIGHTER IN THE WIND. I’ve got to say, this was one of those movies I had no idea about and just decided to watch it one day and man did I ever feel like I found myself a prize. The movie was so goooooood to me! IOE!
Well lets get started, first off this movie is based in the time period WWII in the Pacific was coming to an end, the Japanese lost and the Korean people were liberated but you still had your mingle between them and throw in a bunch of gruff attitude American boys and you get the picture. The main character being a Korean man named Choi Beadal who goes from being a street dweller to an ass kicking martial arts master. The best part is you find out he invented his own style of fighting and that the movie is based on a true life person. (Look him up in wikipedia.org if you like)
After being insulted, treated like dirt, having most his friends and people dearest to him hurt and even killed Choi goes over the top and want’s to get back at everyone for causing him so much grief and oppression a majority of them being Japanese. I believe the movie tries to make a point showing that the view between the Japanese and the Koreans was not a favorable one and the Korean people at the time were looked upon as underlings.
Let me tell you this much about what I’ve watched, Choi really knows how to open up a can of whoop ass in your face style after he discovers his inner strength. On the technical side the cinematography is hella beautiful, being a filmmaker myself I couldn’t help but notice the clarity and simplicity of the imagery, but let me stop there because it’s a bit complicated to keep going on about it.
If you see the movie showing somewhere make a point of watching it. I left this part for last because I didn’t want to spoil the experience for you, FIGHTER IN THE WIND is subtitled (of course because it’s a foreign film) but the placement of the subtitles and the timing is very suitable for all audiences to watch. It’s Universality which speaks the loudest. I give this movie 4.5 stars!

Stand back Crouching Tiger Leaping Dragon, here comes THE SHADOWLESS SWORD. Yes folks it’s another foreign film I didn’t mind watching at all. The cinematography was A-OK but for us folks who want the overall experience the story line, the characters, and the action make this one a keeper.
You should know that the title of the film is really a technique used in the movie to kill anyone and damn it’s one helluva ass kickin’ sword technique. Being a guy I have to comment on the girl who is one of the main characters of the film…. She’s soooooo hot and deadly just get’s me all chilled down to the bone thinkin’ about her he he he! There’s a surprise about another character in the film but I’m not gonna spill the beans on that. UA MA LA! You’re going to have to watch it yourself.
I really enjoyed this movie and I recommend it if you have time and an OPEN MIND (a very important ingredient when exploring things you’re not use to or familiar with) Did I say the story line was timeless?. Well I give this sword swingin’ ass kickin’ movie 4.5 stars. O yeah it’s subtitled but damn when I watched it I felt like I was speaking their language, choo hoo!

I’ve watched some annoying movies in my time and sadly THE INVASION was one of them. For some reason I believe my susceptibility to aliens is becoming extinct. Things growing inside your skin and taking over your body, isn’t it bad enough we have viruses and bacteria dwelling around on our insides.
I really couldn’t place it, I just figured it was annoying from the very start. It all starts off with a surprising crash landing of a space shuttle and then from there the invasion begins. I think it gets a little to fast with the story line and not enough was at stake.
THE INVASION almost reminded me of Resident Evil but the zombies aren’t dead their aliens and you usually don’t shoot them all up to hell which is another sucking factor for the movie. I mean c’mon! Give me a pump action 12 guage, put some aliens in front of me and let’s see what happens, that’s what I think this movie should’ve done with it’s story line. It was too detailed for my liking if you ask me, and there was too much talking and not enough…. well ACTION damnit!. I give it 1.5 stars just for trying to be gross! I recommend you watch it only if you’re lookin’ to see what an annoying movie is like.
